Local Wisdom in Naming The Minangkabau Tribe in Agam District West Sumatra

 Abstract


The names of the tribe in Agam Regency include, Koto tribe, Tanjuang tribe, and  Payo Bada tribe. The name of the tribe in some jorong will experience an increase, example the Koto tribe:  Koto Ateh Tabek tribe and Koto Bawah Labuah tribe. Not all of these tribe exist in every jorong. However, each jorong has at least four tribe. The naming of the tribe is motivated by: place of origin, material, and new naming. Naming is based on the place where the tribe or tribe originated example the Tanjuang Pisang tribe and the Tangah Banana tribe. There is another tribe name based on origin / plants and objects, example Jambak and Guci tribe. There are tribe names whose names are caused by other names, namely: Malay tribe, and Panyalai tribe. The meaning contained in tribe names consists of intentional meanings, there are two intentional meanings, namely the intentional meaning of memories, such as the Koto tribe and the Banana tribe. The intentional meaning of hope consists of futurative expectations, for example Koto Kaciak tribe and Koto Piliang Sani tribe and the meaning of situational expectations example Malay tribe and the Piboda tribe and the meaning of interpretation, namely Tanjuang tribe
