Character Building in Tombo Adat Perkawinan Oral Tradition

 Abstract


Tombo Adat Perkawinan oral tradition is an expression consisting of chosen words and pieces of advice used to convey certain messages with figurative language or metaphor. The oral tradition contains moral values that are useful for the bride, the bridegroom, and anyone who listens to the tradition. This study aims to find out character building values contained in the tradition. The values can be expressed by using the Arif Rahman Hakim’s theory. Some character-building values are identified in the tradition. They are religious and social values; curiosity, reading, and tolerance. The values ​​contained in Tombo Adat Perkawinan can be provisions for both the bride and the bridegroom to build their life.
