Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Based on Local Wisdom in Padang
Abstract
Disaster Mitigation is one way or action to reduce disaster risk, both through physical development and awareness and capacity building in the face of disaster threats. West Sumatra as one of the areas prone to the threat of earthquakes and tsunamis is because of the position of the West Sumatra region in the subdiction zone. The city of Padang as the capital city of West Sumatra has the risk of an earthquake and tsunami, given the existence of the Megathrust phenomenon. therefore preparedness and strengthening of disaster mitigation carried out by the government and the community and related parties are needed. Disaster management can be seen from various perspectives and perspectives, one of which is by mitigating local wisdom-based disasters as an effort to reduce the risk of earthquakes and tsunamis. Local wisdom-based disaster mitigation is a disaster study using the Positivism approach, where the Positivism approach is inseparable from socio-cultural and social themes, especially in relation to the pattern and response of the community to the threatening situation and the ability of the community to deal with the phenomenon of natural disasters. For now, in some coastal areas of Padang City, such as the people of Air Manis Beach and the Teluk Kabung community, they have a tradition of rejecting reinforcements as a tradition that they believe can reject the occurrence of disasters. Therefore with the existence of local wisdom-based disaster mitigation the community can place the community and community groups as the main actors in mitigating disasters. Thus, it can minimize the impact caused by the disaster.
